The short answer:
Things really were made better back then!
The long answer(s):
The best way to avoid your home looking canned, sterile, or just-like-the-Jones’s is to bring in a mix of vintage pieces — even just a few unique housewares can go a long way toward creating a one-of-a-kind personal space. If you can step up to some larger furnishings, you’ll find many older pieces were crafted to last and had timeless silhouettes — often a complete re-work of something from Craigslist is less expensive than a new purchase, and you are left with a completely unique anchor for your space. Add to that the fact that it keeps another item out of our landfills, and it’s a win-win.
I am always shopping for amazing vintage pieces (habitually detouring to any thrift store or estate sale in our vicinity, family eye-rolls notwithstanding), and while clients get first-dibs, I offer a curated collection on Etsy, Chairish, and for Boston locals at Great Road Vintage in Acton, Massachusetts.
