Katy’s first design job was for her grandmother: it was the mid-80s, and in the tiny pecan-shaded bungalow in near-coastal Mississippi, the 12-year old could envision it all — including the grass paper walls(!). Her grandmother wasn’t keen on change, but that first spark of rethinking a space was a book end on an eclectic shelf of design vocations: a brief stint in architecture school, two degrees in graphic design, teaching at universities, and art directing at an advertising agency.
Fast-forward to 2014, when Katy moved to Boston with her husband and three children: ready for a career change, she answered the question what do you most love to do? And the answer was two-fold: 1) help people improve their living space, and 2) hunt for amazing vintage pieces (read more about the connection here). Starting with friends, and utilizing her firmly-held belief that good design is accessible at any budget, she launched Kindred in the fall of 2017.
Katy’s ideal is to work with every type of client, in any style: from those who opt only for a consultation and take the rest from there, to those who want a full-house redo, and everything (really, everything!) in-between. This list of services can be helpful, but the best way to find out how Kindred can help with your current design needs is to start a conversation.
Still occasionally dreaming about her grandmother’s bungalow, Katy can’t wait to hear from you!
